Shaftesbury prepares for general election

March 3 2015

There are fewer than 100 days until the general election and Shaftesbury is hosting a series of discussions (or hustings) across our services including Newcourt Place and York House.

We aim to ensure that all current and prospective MPs (for constituencies in which our services are based) are made aware of the key disability rights issues and what Shaftesbury does to support disabled people. Although the discussions will vary from service to service, overall we hope to cover:

  • Political involvement of disabled people
  • The effects of recent welfare reforms
  • Accessibility to public transport
  • Accessibility to local facilities

We will also offer every current and prospective MP for the relevant constituencies the opportunity to visit the service ahead of the general election to understand more.

In preparation for these debates, we will be releasing a series of video blogs featuring some of our residents sharing their experiences and views on key issues.
