Going the extra mile

May 20 2025

At Shaftesbury, we believe in the power of personal challenges to inspire growth, increase visibility, and build stronger communities. That’s why we’re incredibly proud of Kieran and Paul, two individuals we support at Shaftesbury Shropshire, who are each taking on a journey of perseverance. Their challenges are a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with determination, encouragement, and the right support.

Kieran’s wrekin climb – challenge completed!

Kieran, who lives with autism and a learning disability, set himself the goal of climbing The Wrekin – and he’s done it! With determination, preparation, and the support of his team, Kieran reached the summit, achieving something truly meaningful to him and to our wider community.

“I want to prove to myself that I can do it – and show others they can too!” – Kieran

While the climb may be complete, Kieran is still working towards his fundraising goal. Every donation helps support more people with learning disabilities and autism to live a life that truly adds up.

Paul’s walk around Bayston Hill – coming this June

Next month, Paul will be taking on his own personal challenge: walking around his local community of Bayston Hill. Paul lives with complex needs and is supported by the Shaftesbury Shropshire team. This walk represents so much more than physical movement – it’s about connection and confidence.

“I’m getting out and about more and really enjoying the fresh air and friendly faces!” – Paul

Paul’s walk is a celebration of independence and inclusion. As he prepares for the challenge in June, we’re calling on our community to cheer him on and show their support.

How you can make a difference

Kieran and Paul’s stories show us what’s possible when people are empowered to set goals and are supported to achieve them. Their journeys are not just personal triumphs – they’re symbols of progress and inclusion.

By donating or sharing their stories, you’re helping us ensure others across Shaftesbury’s services can also access opportunities and build confidence.

Together, let’s show Kieran and Paul just how much their efforts matter. That’s what we mean when we say – all together better for disability.
