Brightening Lives Appeal: A beacon of hope
The Brightening Lives appeal epitomises our commitment to enhancing the day-to-day experiences of the people we support. This initiative focuses on several key areas: home improvements that transform living spaces into homes filled with pride, resident-led activities that foster community and joy, sensory experiences that stimulate physical and mental health, and programmes aimed at boosting wellbeing and confidence. Each contribution from Tesco has enabled us to further these goals, making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
Technology Appeal: Bridging the gap with assistive technology
In today’s world, technology is a cornerstone of independence and quality of life, especially for those with disabilities. Our Technology Appeal was initiated to break down barriers and promote inclusivity through the use of assistive technology. This initiative is crucial, as it supports the integration of cutting-edge tools that enhance mobility, hearing, cognition, and daily living activities, helping to foster greater independence and reduce the need for intensive caregiving. By using these technologies, we aim to ensure that the people we support can lead more integrated and fulfilling lives. Tesco’s contributions are instrumental in helping us achieve our aim.

Focused support: Inclusive cooking classes
One of the most recent initiatives made possible by Tesco’s support, is our inclusive cooking classes. These classes are designed to offer the people we support the joy of cooking and the independence that comes with it. With the latest funding, we’ve been able to provide and enhance these classes with specialised equipment and tailored instructions, creating an enjoyable and accessible culinary experience.
“Our project has been a tremendous success, empowering people with learning disabilities to gain valuable cooking and food hygiene skills and even achieve a recognised qualification. The new multi-cookers have inspired participants to create healthy meals to enjoy with their families, and initiatives like ‘Healthy Soup Day’ have fostered independence and healthy living. The confidence and pride gained from these activities have not only benefited the people we support but have also extended to the wider community through fundraising events for great causes like Macmillan Coffee Mornings and Children in Need. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together!”

The future
As we look to the future, the ongoing support from Tesco plays a crucial role in our mission. Each donation, whether allocated for specific needs or broader appeals, is vital in helping us support and empower people with disabilities. We are extremely grateful for Tesco’s ongoing support and are excited about the possibilities that this continued support will bring.
At Shaftesbury, every contribution moves us closer to a world where every individual has the opportunity to lead a life that adds up for them, supported by innovative solutions and compassionate communities. Tesco’s unwavering support is more than just financial assistance; it serves as a powerful testament to the impact of commitment in making a lasting difference.
