As part of the charity’s 10th anniversary celebrations, Shaftesbury was given the special opportunity to invite guests to explore Frogmore House and Garden – an official royal residence. Shaftesbury Manager, Heather Alblas, recounts the day with Paul Robson who lives at Shaftesbury’s Barnabas House residential home in Southend.
Paul has a real passion for art and historical artifacts as well as travelling and visiting new places. When the chance came to explore Frogmore House and Garden he was eager to indulge his passion and invited his family friend Hazel.
Paul and Hazel enjoyed exploring the gardens and beautiful surroundingsThey both enjoyed a lovely cup of tea in the marquee on arrival. Rain didn’t stop them enjoying the day as they went for a tour of the house – packed with drawings, paintings and many beautiful and interesting artifacts.
The group had a packed lunch in the ‘Swiss Seat’ overlooking the lake and watched the ducks and ducklings on the water. Then we walked around the beautiful gardens, looking at the gothic ruins among many other features, and learned that many royal figures are buried in the grounds of the Royal Mausoleum.
‘Shaftesbury produced a commemorative programme produced by Shaftesbury – it was a great reminder of a lovely day out,’ says Heather.
