16 February 2017. London, Dorset.

Miriam is well known throughout Shaftesbury for her dedication, warmth and humour. Originally trained as a nurse, her first role at the organisation was as Deputy Manager of Shaftesbury Keefield Close, the Essex-based residential service for people with learning disabilities and long-term health needs. In recent years, she has served as Hub Manager for seven care homes in the Essex and Norfolk areas, making sure that they fulfil the highest levels of personalised care. She has just won the Lifetime Achievement Award at Shaftesbury’s Princess Royal Awards for staff and volunteers.

Jacqui Pumfrett, Service Manager of Shaftesbury Anvil House, has worked with Miriam for many years and speaks warmly of her kindness and commitment.

‘Miriam really cares about the residents and staff at the services,’ says Jacqui. ‘She is always interested in you and offers her support in any way she can. She is both tender hearted and compassionate.’

Along with overseeing the services, Miriam fulfils a mentoring and supervisory role, working closely with the human resources to monitor and train staff. Despite her hugely empathetic nature, Miriam is professional to the core with her staff.

‘Miriam will not tolerate staff who do not give their best,’ says Jacqui. ‘Her firm but fair approach to line management means that there is no way you would not want to disappoint her or let her down.’

Miriam has a proven passion and commitment for the people who use our services and has devoted herself to giving them every opportunity to fulfil their potential. To this end, she has worked tirelessly to support her colleagues, managers and teams to make this happen.
