On the edge of Poole harbour and home to a wide variety of animal and plant-life, the college provides a great place to relax and reflect whilst connecting with nature. Providing wheelchair-accessible routes and outdoor exercise equipment, viewpoints, a reed bed board walk and a bird hide overlooking the wetland habitat, Shaftesbury Millie College is a unique learning environment.
Shaftesbury Education compromises of Shaftesbury Victoria Education Centre, home to Shaftesbury Victoria School, Shaftesbury Nash College and the new Shaftesbury Millie College.
Shaftesbury Millie College works across two sites, allowing the best of both worlds. The naturally therapeutic learning environment at Holton Lee will provide learning and enterprise skills development leading into the world of work. The Community setting of our Poole campus will enable access to local events and organisations to develop life skills and connections with workplaces, building independence and resilience. Using a variety of activities such as animal care, nature appreciation, horticulture, catering and creative arts with an overarching link of enterprise, our learners will have a voice, a sense of purpose and aspiration for their futures.
The site houses Shaftesbury Millie College, reaching three streams of students, 16+, 19+ and 25+. We cater for a wide range of needs in regard to Autistic Spectrum Condition, learning difficulties and physical disabilities. Our sister site is a community campus in the heart of Poole. We offer a rich and varied curriculum including horticulture, animal care, conservation, outdoor learning, catering, creative arts, woodcraft and retail skills with a central aim of building a range of life skills to live a purposeful and fulfilling life in adulthood.
What is Shaftesbury?
Shaftesbury is the disability charity that connects people with their communities. We tackle social isolation and the barriers that can cause this in the lives of disabled and vulnerable people. Through a wide range of disability, education, training and community services, we promote inclusion and wellbeing for all. Together we can work to see people take part, contribute and be valued. We put the elements in place that all add up to connected lives and communities.
