Christmas is a time for opening doors – to family, loved ones and to celebration.

But many doors are often closed to people with acquired disabilities. Any of us could experience disability at any time and our Christmas wishes could change in an instant.

This Christmas and beyond, Shaftesbury wants to open doors for people with disabilities.

Our support enables people with acquired disabilities to live again. To overcome the barriers they face and open doors so they can take part, feel valued and flourish.

How we support people with acquired disabilities

Matthew's Story

Matthew is a proud father of three children. He lived a normal life until a tragic accident on his push bike six years ago which changed his life beyond all recognition. Matthew is now non-verbal, non-mobile and has lost his independence.

Shaftesbury supports Matthew to enjoy Christmas in the way he chooses to; he loves to see his daughters who visit on Christmas day and is supported to buy their gifts. Last year, the family all wore matching Christmas outfits.

Life can change in an instant.

We support people who are facing the challenge of a new disability to begin life again. By supporting Shaftesbury you could help make a Christmas wish come true for someone like Matthew.

What’s your Christmas wish this year?

By supporting Shaftesbury you could help bring a Christmas wish that little bit closer to coming true for someone facing challenges they could never had imagined.

Christmas wishes for people learning to live with a new disability could look very different.

Our support enables people with disabilities to overcome the barriers they face and open those doors, so they can take part, be included, feel valued and flourish.

That’s why at Shaftesbury, we support people who are facing the challenge of a new disability to begin to make those wishes come true.
